I wrote these songs while coming to terms with the fact that my job was killing me and I had to change it. Every animal on here is stuck in a life somebody else designed: a cicada told to keep digging while its body shuts down, a cow who knows the farmer holds the real control but figures at least she isn't the pig, a bear whose woods keep getting cut down. And running through all of it is a thank-you and a goodbye to someone special: the firefly that lit up the dark, and the hummingbird I learned to love without trying to keep.
