Gargling Gravel
Under all the dirty jokes, this is the job: working for hours to scrape up crumbs that never fill you up, until you'd rather be done with the ants altogether.
Always on the move, always hunting a snack
Check out the fur all over my back
Dragging my snout through the mud and the grit
Looking for a groove where the tool's gonna fit
A long dark corridor, a deep narrow squeeze
Begging for a taste while I'm down on my knees
Slippery sticky and slightly sweet
Stick it in again for the hope of a treat
Show me a hole and I'll check it out
With a special little tool that I'm talkin' about
Four-foot tongue wrapped around my brain
Mouth so small, eating's such a pain
Hours I'm lickin' and lappin' away
Letting my tongue make the deepest play
Teasin' out the treats that I need to live
Slippin' in claws if I need to dig
When the world's so heavy that you can't dance
Just be glad... you don't eat ants.
Sun's going down and the colony's cold
Spent the whole day trading clay for some gold
But the gold's running out and the hill's running dry
Just a couple dead husks under a grey slate sky
Scraping the bottom, I'm working the crack
Breaking my nails for a microscopic snack
The hunger's a rhythm that's slowing right down
The horniest, loneliest beast in this town
Four-foot tongue wrapped around my brain
Mouth so small, eating's such a pain
Hours I'm lickin' and lappin' away
Letting my tongue make the deepest play
Teasin' out the treats that I need to live
Slippin' in claws if I need to dig
When the world's so heavy that you can't dance
Just be glad... you don't eat ants.
Endless hunger squeezing on my brain
Crumbs so small, stomach still in pain
Years I'm lickin' and lappin' away
Workin' like this doesn't get me paid
Baited and switched, only so long to live
Just one last trench that I've got to dig
When the world's so heavy, no reason to dance
At least I'll be done... tryin' to eat ants.
Yeah, no more ants.
