Famine Store
Some part of my body decided I was under siege and started hoarding everything for a winter that never came. I was surrounded by plenty and still starving, because my own survival instincts had locked the pantry.
The alarm is ringing deep in the bone
"We are under siege, we are all alone"
The General shouts from the brain stem floor
"Lock up the fat and seal the door!"
I see the banquet, I see the spread
But the body is convinced that we’re already dead
Hoarding the misery, hoarding the mass
Waiting for a winter that will never pass
Welcome to the Famine Store, deep inside the skin
Where the panic keeps the resources locked within
I’m starving to death in a body of plenty
My cells are full but my soul is empty
The Cortisol Wall is thick and high
It catches the sugar and it watches it die
"Preserve the reserve!" the chemistry screams
Crushing the hope and crushing the dreams
Insulin stands like a guard at the gate
Adding another pound to the heavy weight
"You cannot burn what you stored before"
"We need every ounce for the coming war"
The blood is swimming in a toxic tide
Nowhere to run and nowhere to hide
I’m trying to lighten the load on the frame
But the biology forces me to stay the same
A walking bunker of fear and supply
Too heavy to live and too stubborn to die
Welcome to the Famine Store, deep inside the skin
Where the panic keeps the resources locked within
I’m starving to death in a body of plenty
My cells are full but my soul is empty
The Cortisol Wall is thick and high
It catches the sugar and it watches it die
Drag... the... weight
Accept... the... fate
The biology... acts…
Like... a... tax
The pantry... is... full
The gravity... pull
The pantry... is... full
The gravity... pull
The wall is too high
The wall is too thick
I’m heavy
I’m sick
Just let me sink
Just let me sink
