This Will Have to Do
Therapy homework on "good enough." A cracked mug, a gray Tuesday, big ambitions filed away, and a cat asleep in the sun. It isn't a symphony, but it's enough to get me to tomorrow, and some days that's the win.
The coffee cup is cracked, there's a chill in the air
Another Tuesday morning that doesn't seem to care
The news is full of static, the sky is full of gray
And all my grand ambitions have all been filed away
I used to dream of banquets, a feast for a king
I used to want the orchestra, the song the angels sing
But this is not a symphony, just a single, quiet note
It's not a mighty vessel, just a leaky, little boat
It's not the blinding sunshine, just a break in the gray clouds
It's whispering my own name instead of shouting it out loud
And this will have to do
The cat is sleeping soundly, a patch of morning sun
He doesn't have a mission, his work is never done
He just exists a moment, a simple, furry fact
A promise that the world is not about to crack
I used to dream of winning, of reaching for the prize
I used to see the future in a different pair of eyes
But this is not a victory, just a quiet, little truce
It's not a revelation, just a practical excuse
To take another breath and let the panic start to fade
And be grateful for the tiny, little raft that I have made
And this will have to do
Maybe good enough is just another name for grace
Finding your position in this broken time and place
And letting all the hunger for the perfect disappear
To find a little something that is tangible and here
'Cause this is not a symphony, just a single, quiet note
It's not a mighty vessel, just a leaky, little boat
It's not the blinding sunshine, just a break in the gray clouds
It's whispering my own name instead of shouting it out loud
And this will have to do for now
