I can't stop seeing the scripts running under people's small talk, the patterns and the subroutines. It's a useful superpower and a lonely one, because nothing's magical when you know why it works.
I see the strings on the puppets, I see the telltale signs
The little subroutines in their pickup lines
I see the social contract, the algorithm's hum
The predictable equation for where everyone is from
And I can't turn it off, this processor in my head
Analyzing every single word that's said
It's a lonely superpower, a party trick I do
To see the underlying framework and the code that's running you
And it feels like I'm the only one who knows it's all a game
A glitch in the code, shouting out my name
A bug inside the feature, a crack in the veneer
The ghost in the machine that makes it all so clear
And I would give up anything to turn the damn thing off
But the system's running hot and I can't stop
You tell me that you love me, and I believe it's true
But I can see the triggers that are activating you
The childhood trauma patterns, the hormonal reply
The calculated logic in the corner of your eye
And I want to feel the magic, I want to feel the rush
But my own internal monologue just will not shut up
And it feels like I'm the only one who knows it's all a game
