Stop Punching the Wall

I've spent a lot of my life trying to win by hitting harder. Sometimes wisdom is just noticing you've been punching a wall and turning around to look for the door.

Spent a lifetime raising fists against the pouring rain
Screaming at a hurricane to try and stop the pain
Been arguing with gravity, debating with the stone
Trying to teach a lesson to the things that can't be shown
A better way, a different path, a truth they ought to see
As if the universe itself gives half a damn 'bout me
It's noble work, it's righteous work, it feels so good and true
To spend your whole damn life attacking things you can't break through

But maybe wisdom isn't winning, maybe it's the knowing when
You gotta stop punching the wall and find a door instead
Yeah, maybe strength is not the rage, the fire, and the fight
But just the quiet, tired whisper saying "This ain't right…
...to waste my time on." Yeah, this ain't worth the bloody hand
Some mountains aren't for climbing, son, they're just the lay of land

I diagnosed the system, yeah, I found the fatal flaw
It's running on the agony of breaking its own law
And I could write a thousand songs, I could scream until I'm hoarse
About the fundamental, stupid, tragic lack of course
Correction in the coding, the injustice of the game
But the server doesn't listen, and the outcome's still the same
It's a beautiful machine, I guess, designed to make you bleed
And arguing with physics isn't gonna plant a seed

So maybe wisdom isn't winning, maybe it's the knowing when
You gotta stop punching the wall and find a door instead
Yeah, maybe strength is not the rage, the fire, and the fight
But just the quiet, tired whisper saying "This ain't right…
...to waste my time on." Yeah, this ain't worth the bloody hand
Some mountains aren't for climbing, son, they're just the lay of land

Acceptance isn't weakness, it's not giving up the ghost
It's just a cold assessment of the battles you have lost
Before they even started, it's a strategic retreat
To save your ammunition for a target you can beat
It's looking at the hurricane and calmly shutting the door
'Cause some wars just aren't yours to win, not anymore

So maybe wisdom isn't winning, maybe it's the knowing when
You gotta stop punching the wall and find a door instead
Yeah, maybe strength is not the rage, the fire, and the fight
But just the quiet, tired whisper saying "This ain't right…
...to waste my time on." Yeah, this ain't worth the bloody hand
Some mountains aren't for climbing, son, they're just the lay of land

Just the lay of the land…
Walk around it.
