Imaginary Friends
Nobody really knows who I am, because nobody's with me all the time. Everyone only gets a picture built from what they've seen, and I do the same with them. This song is me trying to leave grace for that, on both sides.
I don't know you and you don't know me
The person in your head's imaginary
Locked inside a bone cage, just soggy meat
Puppeting the body that you can see
Everyone's alone but connected too
Remembering just part of what we do
All those clues building the picture that
Makes up a model, predicts how we'll act
Friends are just people you think you know
Who haven't broken yet the version you grow
When they act the way you think they should
Then we can relax and say they're good
I don't know you and you don't know me
The person in your head's imaginary
Locked inside a bone cage, just soggy meat
Puppeting the body that you can see
It's not a bad thing, don't get too alarmed
Keep yourself controlled, don't cause them harm
Take the new facts and adjust your plan
Accommodate you didn't understand
You're more complex than you can know
Most people don't take the time to grow
You've got a picture of you in your head
But how true is it to what others see and said?
I don't know you and you don't know me
The person in your head's imaginary
Locked inside a bone cage, just soggy meat
Puppeting the body that you can see
Just as others' actions can disappoint
You can do it to yourself too, that's the point
Know yourself first, then go out strong
To see what other folks can bring along
Accept the good and re-recognize the bad
Ignoring doesn't change what makes you sad
Seek and recognize objective truth
Then update your image to grow new roots
I don't know you and you don't know me
The person in your head's imaginary
Locked inside a bone cage, just soggy meat
Puppeting the body that you can see
I don't know you and you don't know me
The person in your head's imaginary
Locked inside a bone cage, just soggy meat
Puppeting the body that you can see
