God on the Floor
A trickster part of me barges in and puts me on trial, asking what I'm actually looking for. I realized that what I believe about myself carries real weight. It's heavy enough to bring down even the gods I built in my own head.
You came in with a flash of light, a cheap and tacky sound
Rearranged the furniture and pushed my friends around
You called me just a broken toy, a puppet on a string
And I guess for just a little while, I'd believe in anything
You built a stage of judgment, you put me on the stand
With the full and awful power of the universe in your hand
And you asked me what I'm looking for, a question sharp and true
And for a second, I believed the answer came from you...
But the truth is just a whisper that can break the strongest wall
And belief is just a gravity that makes even a god fall
And you can play the trickster, you can play the king
But you can't escape the simple truth a broken heart can bring
And the god is on the floor now, a strange and mortal sound
'Cause he's finally in a universe where he is not the only thing around
I didn't use a magic word, I didn't cast a spell
I just showed you the honest truth of my own private hell
I didn't build a better wall or forge a sharper sword
I just laid my soul down on the table, every broken, bloody shard
You came to see a puppet, a creature you could break
But you found a lonely mirror and a truth you couldn't fake
And you asked me how I did it, how I took away the code
I just decided that a heavy heart's a far too heavy load...
'Cause the truth is just a whisper that can break the strongest wall
And belief is just a gravity that makes even a god fall
And you can play the trickster, you can play the king
But you can't escape the simple truth a broken heart can bring
And the god is on the floor now, a strange and mortal sound
'Cause he's finally in a universe where he is not the only thing around
And in the quiet, in the hush
The aftermath, the sudden rush
Of seeing just a lonely man
Who's reaching for another's hand
And realizing the final trick
Is that the pain's what makes you tick
And the only power, in the end
Is a story that you tell a friend
'Cause the truth is just a whisper that can break the strongest wall
And belief is just a gravity that makes even a god fall
And you can play the trickster, you can play the king
But you can't escape the simple truth a broken heart can bring
And the god is on the floor now, a strange and mortal sound
'Cause he's finally in a universe where he is not the only thing around
Just a god on the floor...
Not alone...
Anymore
