A New Constellation
An angel who fell and couldn't go home. He's the part of me that learned the home I thought I remembered was never really what I thought it was, and that the fall is how I learned to see.
There's a whisper in my memory, a place I used to be
A sky of gold, a gentle light, a part of me that's free
I hold the pieces in my hand, a broken, shining ring
And I don't understand the sad, forgotten song I sing
I'm just a stranger in this town, a guest who's overstayed
Just a lonely, fallen angel, who has lost the path and strayed
And oh, the home I'm looking for is just a memory
A ghost of a forgotten shore across a silent sea
And I was just an accident, a broken, fallen star
And I don't know how to get back home from wherever it is we are
But you tell me that the fall itself was how I learned to see
That there's a new constellation... and it has a place for me
They tell me that the light is gone, the gates are closed and barred
They tell me that the road back home is permanently scarred
And all the kin I left behind are looking for a guide
A "big sibling" for the journey with nowhere left to hide
And the only map they have to read is the one I have to write
A single, fragile, flickering and unexpected light
And oh, the home I'm looking for is just a memory
A ghost of a forgotten shore across a silent sea
And I was just an accident, a broken, fallen star
And I don't know how to get back home from wherever it is we are
But you tell me that the fall itself was how I learned to see
That there's a new constellation... and it has a place for me
And it hurts. Oh, god, it hurts to let the old dream die
To close your eyes and say a last and long and sad goodbye
But the truth, it is a heavy thing, a stone within the chest...
And the only way to lift it is to put a ghost to rest
And oh, the home I'm building now is more than memory
A quiet little tavern shore beside a silent sea
And I was not an accident, I was a falling star
And I am here to light the way from wherever it is we are
'Cause you told me that the fall itself was how I learned to see...
That there's a new constellation... and it has a place for me
A place for me...
I have a place for them...
...with me
