Perfectly Overloaded
Therapy homework on "what engaged my senses." After a long gray day running on empty, a big overloaded bowl of something good. It's one of the small pleasures that reminded me I didn't hate everything. I was just starving.
It's been a long day of simple and plain
The gray sky is promising nothing but rain
And you're running on empty, you're down to the wire
Just trying to find a spark for the fire
But then there's a moment, out of the blue
Something familiar, but suddenly new
And the hunger inside you that nobody sees
Finally finds a moment of ease
Oh, it's perfectly overloaded, a beautiful mess
It's more than you asked for, but it's nothing less
Than a party in a bowl, a feast for the soul
A simple thing that makes you feel whole
And for just one second, you can finally feel
That something, somewhere, can still be real
It's the salt and the richness, the smooth and the rough
The feeling of having, for once, had enough
Not too little, not too much, just a satisfying bite
That sets the whole broken compass back to right
Oh, it's perfectly overloaded, a beautiful mess
It's more than you asked for, but it's nothing less
Than a party in a bowl, a feast for the soul
A simple thing that makes you feel whole
And for just one second, you can finally feel
That something, somewhere, can still be real
You see people in pictures, the way that they smile
And you wonder if you could just feel that a while
Then you look down at your hands, and you finally see
This little piece of heaven belongs to me
Oh, it's perfectly overloaded, a beautiful mess
It's more than you asked for, but it's nothing less
Than a party in a bowl, a feast for the soul
A simple thing that makes you feel whole
And for just one second, you can finally feel
That something, somewhere, is beautifully real
