Twilight Zone (Remastered)
Written with Amber Stegner
The last of my wife's high-school poems on this album, and another real collaboration: I wrote parts to flesh it out into a full song. It's about crossing into that hazy in-between place where you have to face your fear before you can get through.
Night is coming
It's twilight
I'm in the twilight zone
Beyond the border of light and sound
I try to stop and calm myself down
The twilight zone where all is vague
Odd sensation, lack of pain
Conquer fear and sally forth
Find a space to show your worth
Knowing I could fall in an instant
The real world seems so very distant
Don't accept the fear you feel
It's the chains that keep you here
Tied into your mortal shell
Trapped in material hell
Now I awake to the morning
And I have the strangest story
Bring it out, show it off
Keeping secrets is a cross
One you won't carry alone
You can have my brain on loan
So strange in fact
It should be known
No one will believe I was
In the twilight zone
If you say it, I'll believe
But I'm glad you didn't leave
Take vacation through the rift
But come back from shorter trips
Knowing I could fall in an instant
The real world seems so very distant
Conquer fear and sally forth
Find a space to show your worth
Knowing I could fall in an instant
The real world seems so very distant
The real world seems so very distant
The fear you feel
It's the chains that keep you here
Tied into your mortal shell
Trapped in material hell
Hell
Now I awake to the morning
And I have the strangest story
Bring it out, show it off
Keeping secrets is a cross
One you won't carry alone
You can have my brain on loan
So strange in fact
It should be known
No one will believe I was
In the twilight zone
If you say it, I'll believe
But I'm glad you didn't leave
Take vacation through the rift
But come back from shorter trips
