As We Drive By Lost Rage (Remastered)
Written with Amber Stegner
Three of my wife's high-school poems, stitched together into one song: lost and alone on a bus, staring out at seagulls in a field. It catches that teenage feeling of being carried somewhere you didn't choose.
As we drive by
So says I
While sitting in a bus
Passing trees, sitting in seats
As I’m sitting in a bus
God I am lost
Cold and alone
I need help now
And don’t know where to go
As we drive by
So says I
Out the window I stare
Seagulls standing in a field
I really saw them, I swear
I hate this feeling
Not knowing my place
In this world
What is my fate?
As we drive by
So says I
My cappuccino cup sits empty
My radio is dead, but I won’t lose my head
As my cappuccino cup sits empty
There was a guy called Dave
And to his peers he caved
He took ecstasy
And fell fast asleep
Now he just lies in a grave
As we drive by
So says I
People are talking or sleeping
My back is sore, but I’m not bored
As people are talking or sleeping
Am I to love, or die
To shrink, or grow
Those without cares I vie
For it’s their lives I want to live
As we drive by
So says I
We get close to our destination
I’m all set, are we there yet?
As we get close to our destination
Picking classes seems really high strung
And unfortunately, my counselor is really dumb
She’s unknowing of my goals and wasting my time
I hope my rage leaves by the end of this rhyme
As we drive by
So says I
We finally enter the city
The buildings so tall, make me feel small
As we finally enter the city
