Tearing Down the Statues
A middle finger to the gods I was raised under, and to the whole idea that anyone gets authority over me. They taught me I was born to serve and that everything wrong was my fault. Those statues come down.
You built this temple in my head
And filled my heart with silent dread
You wrote your laws upon my soul
And took a child and made him old
Your ghosts still haunt these empty halls
And whisper treason when I fall
But I am not your fawning son
Your long and bitter reign is done
So I'm tearing down the statues of the gods who gave me pain!
I'm burning down the altars in this cleansing, holy rain!
This kingdom has a new-found king, you have no power here!
I'm forging my own future from the wreckage of my fear!
You taught me I was born to serve
A broken spring, a shattered nerve
You fed me guilt, you taught me shame
And whispered I was born for blame
But every lie and every scar
Has forged me to a brand new star
And with the strength you tried to break
My own damn world I'm gonna make
So I'm tearing down the statues of the gods who gave me pain!
I'm burning down the altars in this cleansing, holy rain!
This kingdom has a new-found king, you have no power here!
I'm forging my own future from the wreckage of my fear!
I’m worth much more than what I do
More capable than you ever knew
You tried to chain me, with bonds of fear
But that’s not the lesson I choose to hear
Every time you threatened me
Showed me the man that I could be
So I say no, I won’t walk your path
I might fail, but this truth will last
So I'm tearing down the statues of the gods who gave me pain!
I'm burning down the altars in this cleansing, holy rain!
This kingdom has a new-found king, you have no power here!
I'm forging my own future from the wreckage of my fear!
