Queen in Exile
She wakes up in a castle made of glass. The man who used to be her fortress is asking for something far away, and she doesn't know who we are anymore. I wanted to be honest about how scary my changing was for her. She deserves respect, period.
I woke today inside a dream I didn't recognize
The castle walls were made of glass, with cold and honest eyes
The man I knew, my steady king, my fortress and my shield
Had shown me a forgotten thing, a wound that never healed
He spoke of fire, spoke of need, a language I don't know
And in my heart, a single seed of terror starts to grow
He says the world I thought was true
Was just a cage for me and you
He says the peace I fought to keep
Was just a lie we told in sleep
And I'm a queen without a crown!
My world is burning, crashing down!
He's asking for a distant star
And I don't know who we even are!
He's asking for a wildfire's art
And all I have's a broken heart!
But in the ruins, I can see
The one, true, and honest part of me
Is still the part that won't let go!
I'll learn to love the man I know!
He says I am a Hearth-Queen, and my love's a steady flame
He doesn't know I'm terrified to even speak my name
He sees a queen upon a throne, a garden, safe and deep
He doesn't see the girl, alone, with promises to keep
To a man who's made of starlight, and a man who's made of pain
While I am just a simple girl who's praying for the rain
He says our love is not a lie
He's just a man who needs to fly
He says that I can be his home
The sacred ground where he can roam
But I'm a queen without a crown!
My world is burning, crashing down!
He's asking for a distant star
And I don't know who we even are!
He's asking for a wildfire's art
And all I have's a broken heart!
But in the ruins, I can see
The one, true, and honest part of me
Is still the part that won't let go!
I'll learn to love the man I know!
So let the castle burn
I have so much to learn
He is my king, this I know
And I will learn to let him grow
I'll learn to let him go
And come back home
