Rain
Written with Amber Stegner
Lyrics from a poem my wife wrote in high school: sitting on a stone wall on the moor as the rain comes in, talking with fairies. I thought some of her old poetry deserved a tune, and putting her words to music was my way of including her.
A strong wind blows across a plain
Brings a chill to the skin and a smell of rain
Birds to their fledglings and foxes to their kits
On a stone wall I choose to sit
Then I look across the moor
To an orchard with four walls and a door
I notice trees, not noticed before
Listening to the wind
And talking with fairies
The tall grass sweeps
Over gently rolling prairies
Then comes the rain
Tapping the window pane
I set my book on the desk
And lay on my bed for a rest
Then comes the rain
Tapping the window pane
I set my book on the desk
And lay on my bed for a rest
A strong wind blows across a plain
Brings a chill to the skin and a smell of rain
Birds to their fledglings and foxes to their kits
On a stone wall I choose to sit
Then I look across the moor
To an orchard with four walls and a door
I notice trees, not noticed before
Listening to the wind
And talking with fairies
The tall grass sweeps
Over gently rolling prairies
Then comes the rain
Tapping the window pane
I set my book on the desk
And lay on my bed for a rest
