Nightmare '03

Another of my wife's high-school poems, a nightmare she put on paper back in '03. On this one I wrote parts too, fleshing her poem out into a full song, so it's a real collaboration rather than just an arrangement.
As I look into the abyss
I see a monster in the mist
Black of night hair and moonlight skin
Spying me from its deep dark den
No! It'll find me!
Gotta run the best
If he grabs me
What happens next?
As I watch he starts to stand
I back up on a floor of sand
As he walks a steady pace
My beating heart begins a race
No! It'll find me!
Gotta run the best
If he grabs me
What happens next?
Now I turn and start to run
I look for an exit where there's none
As he wanders, one, two, three
Only blackness deep as the sea
No! It'll find me!
Gotta run the best
If he grabs me
What happens next?
I hear the monster coming closer
Oh god how I wish this was over
I turn my head to the side
And there was a place in which to hide
No! It'll find me!

I sit here now, hear the monster's breathing
Wondering if I'm really sleeping
Sitting here ready to die
I take a deep breath and let out a sigh
No! It'll find me!

Then my ears started ringing
And I'm staring up at my ceiling
In my room I had to smile
Glad nightmares last just a short while
Just a short while in the rear view
But seems forever when still new
No! It'll find me!
